Overview
Raion carbonica. A colony of worms living inside a shared membrane, probably a sponge. Uses weak acid to digest prey — the worms secrete it as a digestive factor and hold it under pressure as a defense mechanism. Remove the outer chambers before disturbing the central pump to avoid an acid spray. May have originally evolved near a cold seep or volcanic caldera. The central pump contains worm residue with useful clotting factors and broad-spectrum antibiotics. Biologically anomalous: the sponge and worms contain partial copies of each other's genomes — a biological impossibility on Earth. Note: produces egg clusters that can be processed into strong acid.
Survival
Harvest the outer pouches before disturbing the central pump. The pump releases acid under pressure if punctured incorrectly.
