Overview
An enormous crab (tentatively Ostrakonskelos anaktoraphore, hard-legged palace-bearer) that hides among coral domes. Wears a living coral dome cut from its holdfast as camouflage, protection, and possibly a nursery. Forelimbs are used for digging and food collection via soft maxillipeds around the mouth. Its genome contains large repeated retroviral inserts including nerve growth factors and shell pigments, with cells carrying partial copies of the coral dome polyp's genome. Drums on the seafloor to communicate; claw-clacking signals agitation. Shows mineral deficiencies and fungal infections indicating ecological stress, yet intelligence may be at least comparable to a gorilla. Its defenses imply the existence of a predator powerful enough to shuck it from its dome.
Survival
Watch for coral formations that suddenly move. Present in the Sulfur farming area — stay alert when collecting Sulfur for the Repair Tool.
