Overview
Titanotagmatapterya amalthea — the titanic wing-segmented cup of plenty. An enormous arthropod leviathan. Ancestors evolved very early in Protean arthropod history: limbs evolved into paddles, the thorax developed a deep keel, and maxillipeds transformed into eyes by homeosis. Throat is lined with plankton traps and gill openings at the rear of the thoracic keel, yet its enormous beak is also suited to cracking and tearing. Gathers layers of oil beneath its outer shell, releasing droplets alongside eggs as a predator decoy. As a strandulate, it must molt — shed exoskeletons drop to the seafloor with lipid-rich grease, providing a feast for deep-abyss dwellers.
