Overview
Jetocaris (tentatively Tripod phrontiscaris). A three-legged social crustacean that displays parenting behavior. Three-legged animals don't exist on Earth due to early bilateral symmetry; the jetocaris' legs may have formed from the fusion of six earlier legs. Each leg has a valved thruster evolved from leg-mounted gills, allowing it to hover and swim. Deploys two long flexible radulae (possibly evolved from maxillipeds) to search for food. Carries and protects juveniles of the same species and displays expressive body language suggesting a dense social life, including adoption behavior toward juveniles not its own. Assessment: mostly harmless. May provide emotional benefits.
