What Is the Repair Tool?

The Repair Tool is a battery-powered handheld device that repairs damaged mechanical objects. The in-game description calls it a "combination scanner and portable fabricator" that uses magnetohydrodynamic manipulation to restore damaged systems. Practically: aim at a damaged object and hold the trigger.

The Repair Tool is a key mid-game progression item — many wreck sections are locked behind broken doors that only it can open, including the large wreck northeast of your Lifepod where the Rebreather blueprint is found.

Step 1: Unlock the Blueprint

Scan 3 Repair Tool fragments scattered across wrecks near your Lifepod. Once all 3 are scanned, the blueprint unlocks automatically in the Fabricator under the Tools category.

Fragment 1 — Colonist Bunker

Direction: Southeast of Lifepod (compass ~150–165°)
Depth: ~30m

Find the rock formation and enter via a red hatch below a blue indicator light. The Repair Tool fragment is on a desk inside the bunker.

Fragment 2 — Cicada Wreck (Lander Garage)

Direction: Northeast of Lifepod (compass ~30–60°), ~347m away
Depth: ~30m

Enter from underneath the wreck via the left-side entrance into the lander garage. The fragment is on the ground in the southeastern corner of the garage.

Fragment 3 — Cicada Wreck (Canteen)

Direction: South of Lifepod (compass ~195°), ~270m away
Depth: 50m+

Enter from the back of the wreck, go left and dive down. The fragment is on a couch near a cracked elevator.

Step 2: Craft the Repair Tool

Craft at the Fabricator → Tools category.

Material Amount How to Get
Titanium Ingot × 1 3× Titanium Ore → Processor
Wiring Kit × 1 Silver Ore × 1 + Copper Wire × 1 → Fabricator
Basic Battery × 1 Copper Ore × 2 + Acidic Raion Pouch × 1 → Fabricator
Sulfur × 1 ~200m SE of Lifepod near Coral Crabs (~25m deep), or hydrothermal zones

⚠️ Note: Sulfur in hydrothermal zones requires the Heat Tolerance Adaptation to gather safely. Early game, find a small amount ~200m southeast of your Lifepod near the Coral Crabs area at ~25m depth — no Heat Tolerance needed there.

What Can the Repair Tool Fix?

Target Effect
Tadpole Submarine Restores durability — at 0% the sub can't move until repaired
Broken wreck doors Opens sealed sections to access blueprints and supplies
Alterra wreck components Restores damaged hull and habitat modules

Tips

  • A HUD prompt appears automatically when a repairable object is within range — no guessing needed.
  • Battery drains at 1 energy per second. Carry spare Basic Batteries for long wreck dives.
  • Assign the Repair Tool to a toolbelt slot for fast access during exploration.
  • Repairing doors in the large northeast wreck unlocks the Rebreather blueprint — a major upgrade for deep diving.
